Transport services

Part-load (LTL) transport

We carry smaller consignments when a full vehicle is not needed. You save, as you pay only for the space used.

Dangerous goods transport

We carry ADR cargo in compliance with all safety requirements, with prepared documents and qualified drivers.

International freight transport

We carry cargo across Europe and back, taking care of the documents and timely delivery in both directions.

The right choice of vehicle determines not only safety on the road but also the final price. Before submitting a quote, we always assess the cargo weight, dimensions, nature and loading conditions. This allows us to choose the most suitable solution straight away – changes once on the road cost more and take more time.

These services are relevant both for one-off shipments and for regular routes. The only difference is that for regular transport the vehicle type and schedule can be agreed in advance, whereas for a one-off shipment we decide based on the details of the specific request.

Transport services with UAB „Kauno logistikos agentūra“ in brief

trans.lt is the freight transport website of UAB „Kauno logistikos agentūra“. We organise transport services as part of the freight transport process: we select a vehicle according to the cargo weight, dimensions, packaging, loading conditions, route and deadline. We handle domestic and international transport, full loads, part loads and cargo requiring special conditions.

Vehicle types for freight transport

Different cargo requires different vehicles. The wrong choice of vehicle can mean additional costs or late delivery. The most commonly selected options are:

Curtain-side semi-trailer

The most versatile solution for standard cargo – it allows loading from the side, rear or top and is suitable for pallets, boxes and cargo of various sizes.

Curtain-side semi-trailer for freight transport

Box-body semi-trailer

Selected for cargo that needs additional protection against the weather, dust or other external factors.

Box-body semi-trailer for freight transport

Reefer (refrigerated trailer)

Used for temperature-sensitive cargo – food products, pharmaceuticals and chemical industry raw materials.

Refrigerated semi-trailer for temperature-sensitive cargo

Low-loader or specialised semi-trailer

Designed for oversized or heavy cargo whose height, width or weight exceeds standard limits.

Low-loader trailer for heavy and oversized cargo

Van or small truck

For local routes or deliveries to city centres, a smaller vehicle is sometimes more suitable – we select it according to the same principles as a semi-trailer.

Van for smaller and urgent consignments

We always select the vehicle according to the needs of the cargo, taking into account its nature, weight and loading conditions. Sometimes the most suitable solution only becomes clear after answering additional questions – for example, whether the cargo will be lifted by forklift or loaded by hand, or whether a specific loading position matters.

Cargo packaging and securing for safe transport

Proper cargo preparation and clearly agreed loading conditions help avoid disputes over liability, cargo damage and delays.

Securing cargo in a vehicle

01 / Liability

Packaging, loading and initial securing of the cargo are usually the responsibility of the consignor or the client ordering the transport, unless the parties agree otherwise. The client must assess the nature of the cargo, the suitability of the packaging for transport, possible movement of the cargo on the road, gaps between pallets and other circumstances that may affect safe carriage.

02 / Before loading

When organising transport, we find out the cargo weight, dimensions, packaging, loading method and any special conditions in advance so that a suitable vehicle can be selected. If obvious packaging damage or cargo preparation shortcomings are visible during loading, they should be noted in the transport documents, e.g. the CMR consignment note, or the risk should be reported before transport begins.

03 / CMR consignment note

The driver’s remarks on the CMR consignment note help record clearly visible packaging or loading defects, but their absence does not in itself remove the responsibility of the consignor or the client ordering the transport for proper packaging and preparation of the cargo for transport, especially where the defects are not clearly visible from the outside.

04 / Securing equipment

The vehicle selected for transport must have the equipment needed to secure the cargo: straps, corner protectors and other solutions required for the specific cargo, taking into account the nature of the cargo and the information provided by the consignor/client. During loading it is important to ensure that the cargo is positioned so that the weight is evenly distributed across the axles – this matters both for safety and for compliance with permitted road weight limits.

Temperature-sensitive, dangerous and oversized cargo

Not all cargo is carried under standard conditions

Temperature-sensitive

For temperature-sensitive cargo we select refrigerated transport (a reefer). The required temperature range is agreed before loading. If the nature of the cargo requires temperature data logging, we also agree this condition before transport.

Oversized and heavy cargo

For oversized and heavy cargo we organise specialised transport, arrange the necessary permits and, if required, an escort. We plan such transport further in advance than standard shipments, as obtaining permits and agreeing the route takes extra time. Where necessary, we also assess possible route restrictions: bridge heights, road widths or permitted axle loads.

Dangerous goods (ADR)

Transport services in Lithuania and on international routes

Transport within Lithuania and on international routes each has its own specifics. Transport within Lithuania can often be planned faster than international carriage, but the exact transit time depends on the cargo, the route, the loading conditions and vehicle availability.

Internationally, transport services also involve additional factors – border formalities, a longer route, different road tolls and possible intermediate stops along the way. The vehicle is selected to suit the entire route. As a result, planning may take a little longer than for domestic transport.

In both cases the principle of vehicle selection remains the same: we decide based on the cargo parameters. The only difference is how many additional circumstances need to be assessed before the final quote is confirmed. We collect this information at the request stage so that the quote is accurate from the outset.

What determines the price of transport services?

We cannot give a single fixed price for transport – we always calculate it based on the details of the specific order. The main factors that affect it are:

01

Vehicle type

A reefer or specialised semi-trailer costs more than a standard curtain-side trailer.

02

Distance and route complexity

Fuel, road tolls and time on the road directly affect the final amount.

03

Loading and waiting time

Longer waiting time at the loading or unloading site may be charged separately.

04

Return trip option

If the vehicle can return with another load, the overall price is often more favourable than when it travels back empty.

05

Seasonality

In busier periods or on more popular routes, fewer vehicles are available, which is reflected in the price.

It is precisely because of these factors that two seemingly similar orders may cost different amounts: one may require “empty” kilometres and the other not, or one may take place in peak season and the other in a quieter period. That is why the price of freight transport services is calculated individually rather than according to a fixed rate – we quote an exact amount only after assessing your cargo parameters.

FAQ

What transport services does UAB „Kauno logistikos agentūra“ provide?

Through trans.lt, UAB „Kauno logistikos agentūra“ organises transport services for domestic and international freight transport. Based on the cargo weight, dimensions, packaging, loading conditions, route and deadline, we select a suitable vehicle: curtain-side, box-body, refrigerated or specialised.

Who selects the vehicle for freight transport?

We select the vehicle for freight transport according to the specific cargo data: weight, dimensions, packaging, loading method, delivery deadline and route. If the cargo requires special conditions, we assess this before submitting a quote.

How is cargo secured during transport?

The vehicle selected for transport must have the equipment needed to secure the cargo, e.g. straps, corner protectors or other solutions required for the specific cargo. Securing and loading conditions are agreed according to the nature of the cargo and the information provided by the consignor/client.

Can you transport frozen or temperature-sensitive products?

For temperature-sensitive cargo we select refrigerated transport (a reefer). If the nature of the cargo requires temperature logging or data reporting, we agree this in advance.

What oversized cargo can you carry?

We organise the transport of heavy and oversized cargo, arranging the necessary permits and, where required, an escort. We recommend planning such transport well in advance so that there is enough time to complete all the formalities.

What is the difference between a curtain-side and a box-body semi-trailer?

A curtain-side trailer allows more flexible loading from several sides and is suitable for most standard cargo. A box-body semi-trailer provides additional protection against the weather and is suitable for more sensitive or valuable cargo.

Do you provide transport services for one-off shipments?

Yes, we select vehicles for both one-off and regular transport – in both cases we assess the parameters of the specific cargo before submitting a quote.

Can I specify which vehicle I would prefer?

Yes, you can specify your preferred vehicle type in the request. If the specified type is not suitable for the cargo due to weight, dimensions or other reasons, we will let you know and propose a more suitable, safer option before the final order is confirmed.

Can I track where my cargo is at the moment?

An assigned contact person keeps in touch with the driver (carrier) and informs you about the main stages of transport. If the location of the cargo needs to be confirmed, we check it based on the information available from the driver (carrier).
