Freight transport to and from the Netherlands
Holland is the name commonly used in everyday language for the Netherlands. The Netherlands is an important logistics and distribution destination in Western Europe. We transport cargo in both directions – from Lithuania to the Netherlands and from the Netherlands to Lithuania. Customs declarations are usually not required for intra-EU transport.
Who transports cargo from the Netherlands to Lithuania and from Lithuania to the Netherlands?
Freight transport on the Netherlands route via trans.lt is organised by UAB „Kauno logistikos agentūra“ – we select the transport according to the size of the cargo, the deadline, the loading location and the document requirements.
How does freight transport to and from the Netherlands work?
Depending on the nature of the cargo and the deadline, we offer a full truckload or part-load solution. You will find the general transport procedure on the International freight transport page.
Where we collect cargo in the Netherlands
We collect cargo from warehouses, manufacturers, distribution centres and logistics parks in the Netherlands. Many European distribution centres are concentrated in the southern part of the country, so routes can often be planned to collect cargo from several nearby points.
It is important that on the loading day the cargo is ready, packed and accessible for loading. We do not organise container transhipment or other port operations. However, if the cargo has already been released from the terminal, the required port formalities have been completed, and it is ready for road transport and can be loaded onto a curtain-side trailer, we can arrange its collection from a port terminal, logistics warehouse, distribution centre or manufacturer.
Full truckload or part load?
A full truckload (FTL) is usually chosen when the cargo takes up all or most of the vehicle, or when it is important to avoid additional handling stages. For smaller cargo, a part load (LTL) may be more suitable, where the vehicle space is shared between several clients’ consignments. We choose the specific solution based on the size of the cargo, the route and the required delivery date.
Insurance and storage on this route
Carrier’s liability (CMR) insurance is not cargo insurance – it covers the carrier’s liability under the CMR Convention, subject to the terms and limits of the specific policy, and not the full value of the cargo.
This is relevant on this route because cargo is often taken over from a distribution centre, logistics warehouse or port terminal – after several handling stages. The carrier’s liability applies from the moment the cargo is taken over until delivery. When accepting the cargo, its externally visible condition can be assessed, so for higher-value goods it is worth checking in advance whether the carrier’s liability limits are sufficient.
When the cargo value is higher and the carrier’s liability limits alone may not be sufficient, we help arrange additional cargo insurance, which is taken out separately for each shipment.
Short-term interim storage in the Netherlands is organised through our partners when needed. As we coordinate transport, insurance and storage together, the client does not need to deal with several suppliers separately.
What types of cargo are most commonly transported to and from the Netherlands?
On the Netherlands route we transport technology products, horticultural and agricultural products, construction materials, chemical industry raw materials, as well as consumer goods. The route is relevant both for larger companies that import or export regularly and for clients organising a smaller, one-off shipment.
Communication during transport
Each shipment is assigned a responsible contact person who knows the status of the specific cargo. We inform the client of the expected delivery time and of any changes to it.
When cargo is collected from a port terminal, logistics warehouse or distribution centre, the collection time may depend on the terminal’s or warehouse’s working hours, the status of the documents and the loading conditions. In such cases we coordinate the transport based on current information and inform the client of any changes.

FAQ
Are customs documents required when transporting cargo to or from the Netherlands?
When cargo is transported between Lithuania and the Netherlands as an intra-EU movement, customs declarations are usually not required, but the cargo must be accompanied by the standard transport and commercial documents. If the cargo has not yet been released for free circulation in the EU, we assess the transport options and the required formalities separately.
How long does freight transport from Lithuania to the Netherlands take?
The transit time depends on the type of cargo, the chosen route and the coordination of loading and unloading times. We will state an estimated transit time in the quote.
Do you also transport part loads to or from the Netherlands?
Yes. We assess the part-load option and transit time based on the size of the cargo, the route and the shipments planned on this route at the time. You will find more about this solution on our part-load transport page.
Freight transport Netherlands–Lithuania: do you transport in both directions?
Yes. We transport both from Lithuania to the Netherlands and from the Netherlands to Lithuania. The principle is similar in both directions: we select the transport according to the cargo details, agree the loading and unloading times and keep you informed about the main stages of the shipment. When routes match, the cargo can be combined with a journey that is already planned – this can help us offer a more favourable price.
Can you help with additional cargo insurance and storage?
Yes, when the cargo requires it, we can help arrange additional cargo insurance and, if needed, coordinate interim storage through our partners. The terms of the additional insurance, the insurer, the coverage limits and exclusions are set out in the specific insurance policy.
Can you collect cargo directly from a manufacturer or warehouse in the Netherlands?
Yes. We can arrange collection of the cargo from a manufacturer, warehouse or distribution centre in the Netherlands – it is important that on the loading day it is packed and ready for transport.
How do I order freight transport from the Netherlands to Lithuania?
To order a shipment, we would need to know the weight and dimensions of the cargo, the number of packages, the loading location and the delivery address in Lithuania. Based on this information, we help coordinate the transport, the route and the shipment process.
How is the price of freight transport from the Netherlands calculated?
The price depends on the loading and delivery locations, the weight and dimensions of the cargo, the type of vehicle, the delivery deadline and any additional requirements. Once we receive the key information, we can provide an individual quote.
Can I order urgent cargo collection in the Netherlands?
Yes, we can check the options for urgent transport. In this case it is important to provide accurate cargo details as soon as possible, the loading address and the deadline by which the cargo must reach Lithuania.
